Students from Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet, an elementary school in the Lake Highlands area, witnessed a shooting, reports Avi Selk on the Dallas Morning News crime blog. It happened Tuesday morning at about 7:45 a.m. on Benares Dr., near the school.  The victim, who was reportedly shot in the head in front of several children, is alive but in bad shape. It is also noted in the post that another crime involving gunfire occurred in the same area last week. RISD today canceled extracurricular activities at Hamilton Park and counselors will reportedly be on hand for the kids.
