Lake Highlands Freshmen Center and Apollo Junior High are among 15 Richardson ISD schools that have been named 2011 Higher Performing Schools by the National Center for Educational Achievement. The award is based on Commended Performance on the TAKS test and consistent improvement from previous years.

Higher Performing School are formerly known as Just for the Kids Schools. Many of the schools that received the honor are almost entirely made up of economically disadvantaged students.

This list is more selective than the Texas Education Agency’s annual ratings, and it represents a little more than 10 percent of schools in the state.
