Over the next several months, 50 families in financial crisis and/or at risk of homelessness will move into the Montecito Palms apartments in Lake Highlands.
Family Gateway, a nonprofit organization that provides housing and comprehensive services to homeless families with children will support the move, focusing on the needs of children and their parents with the intention of empowering them to move from their current crisis back to self-sufficiency — this info comes from neighborhood resident Dabney Dwyer who leads a ministry program at Episcopal Church of the Ascension.
Dwyer says her church is overloaded with community needs and she hopes the greater Lake Highlands area will aid in the effort to successfully bring these families into the neighborhood.
“There are 50 families moving into Montecito Palms and they each need necessary furniture and household items to begin their new life,” she lets us know via email. Below is a list of items needed.
“I encourage all of you to strongly consider how your church or organization can help Family Gateway and these families with children. They are an exceptional organization and they need your help with these families as they move into their new home,” she says.
