That empty WAMU bank on Audelia near Walnut Hill has had a ViewPoint Bank sign in front for a couple of months. We wrote about ViewPoint’s plans to take over that spot in the September magazine, in which executive vice president Mark Hord noted that ViewPoint’s Ferndale and Northwest Highway branch has been quite successful, so the bank has been “looking for a location in the area for years.”

ViewPoint spokeswoman Mary Rische told us recently that the Walnut Hill-Audelia branch will open the first weekend of December. (Whether or not any progress will be made toward the 17 homes that are supposed to replace most of the rest of the vacant retail on the property is unclear. Nothing has changed visibly on that front since we last wrote about it in July. )

ViewPoint is locally based and currently has 25 locations in the metro area. Hord told us in the September Live Local story that ViewPoint prides itself on being involved in its communities, and would “work on getting plugged into the community.” That promise is coming to fruition before the branch opens its doors — ViewPoint is one of the sponsors of this Saturday’s Oktoberfest. (Maybe you’ve heard about it?)
