Many of us here in Dallas have family or friends in the parts of Texas that have been burning. The family and friends of Martha Werner, a LHHS grad who is the principal at Mina Elementary in Bastrop, Texas is asking for Lake Highlands’ help in assisting the city and school.

Martha says, via an email to the family of Exchange Club Lake Highlands member Don Lee, that those who wish to help can do so in the following ways:

WalMart, Target or HEB gift cards for the school, to help the 18 displaced teachers and students, or school supplies, books, toys for students can be sent to Martha Werner at Mina Elementary, 1203 Hill Street Bastrop, TX 78602.

To send items or gift cards to the greater school district (“Emile Elementary, Lost Pines Elementary and Red Rock Elementary are anticipating large losses,” she notes) please contact Donald Williams, Director of Communications for BISD at 512.321.2292.

First National Bank of Bastrop has opened an account to help displaced teachers and students. Monetary donations for BISD staff may be sent to First National Bank of Bastrop, 489 Highway 71 West, PO Drawer F, Bastrop, TX 78602 with checks payable to Bastrop ISD Employee Fund.

Bastrop Christian Ministerial Alliance is calling for the following donations — ice chests, Depends, diapers, tolietries, pillows, towels, blankets, backpacks, school supplies. Those will be accepted in person at Rundell Business Park at 704 Hwy 71 West (11 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays) or call 512.332.8661 for more information. Checks and money orders may be sent to Bastrop Christian Ministerial Alliance, PO Box 856, Bastrop, TX 78602.
