Lake Highlands High School counselors are a wealth of up-to-date information about college admissions policies, SAT testing dates, campus visit weekends and scholarship deadlines, but getting teenagers to pop into the school office for a sit-down meeting can be like shepherding bumblebees. Beginning this school year, Wildcats and their parents can follow the latest counselor news via Twitter @LHCounselors.

Twitter, unlike the paper newsletters I used to find wadded up in my kids’ backpacks, can deliver the latest news to the kids pocket phones in short, digestible bursts. In addition to the information the counselors receive directly from colleges all over the U.S. and abroad, they’ll be following the colleges’ Twitter feeds and will pass along those updates as needed. Finally, something to help you justify your child’s outrageous cell phone bill.
