New Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings has accepted an invitation by the Lake Highlands Exchange Club to be Grand Marshal of its 4th of July parade this year, gliding down the center of Church Road to meet and greet LH’s finest. Rawlings’ election was only final over the weekend but he has close ties to LH, including his friendship with Dallas power couple Alan and Joan Walne. Alan, of course, served on the Dallas City Council and Joan worked with Rawlings on the Dallas Park Board (Rawlings was president then, Joan is president now.)

The July 4th Parade is a decades-old tradition in LH, bringing out everyone from the new LHHS Bell Boys, Wranglers, Highlandettes and cheerleaders to scout troops, sports teams, HOAs and LH families. Current council member Jerry Allen is offering $1,000 in prize money for the winning float, and there’ll be plenty of fun at the carnival-style activities near the spray grounds and newly-remodeled recreation center after the parade.
