Dallas Observer columnist Jim Schutze has accepted my suggestion that he run for mayor. Or he hasn’t. Jim keeps changing his mind, because he is concerned that I am questioning the intelligence of anyone who runs for mayor in these troubled times. No doubt Jim has enough people calling him an idiot; he certainly doesn’t need me doing it.
But that was not my intention at all. Frankly, I want Jim to run for mayor so I can call and tell him to do stuff for me, just like all the other Dallas big shots.
“Jim, I think we need a city-owned mega-wine bar to bring in the conventions — and the city should pay me a nice consulting fee for coming up with the idea.” “Sure, Jeff, no problem. Let me sell some revenue bonds. After all, what are friends for?”
That is the Dallas way, isn’t it?
