A group of young musicians from in and around our neighborhood, none of whom are dudes (hence the band name We’re Not Dudes) will open for Sarah Jaffe in Fort Worth this weekend. In case you haven’t heard of Jaffe, the young folk singer from Denton, TX is a rising star.
The show is at Lola’s on 6th Street at 10 p.m., which seems a little late for an 8 year old … that’s how old the drummer, Marlhy Murphy of Lake Highlands is. Alex Belland of Preston Hollow is the lead singer and plays the keys. They are accompanied by Kaia Brown from East Dallas on bass and, the oldest Molly McNulty, 13, on lead guitar and vocals. Think they sound awesome? You have no idea — to fully appreciate these kids, you have to see them for yourself. Fortunately for you, Advocate photographer Benjanim Hager dropped in on one of their rehearsals at the East Dallas-based School of Rock and shot some video.
