We know there are plenty of events in the works to commemorate White Rock Lake’s 100-year birthday during 100 days in March, April and May but we don’t have a lot of specifics yet. We do know that Ebby Halliday, who will also turn 100 next year, will serve as honorary chair and that members of more than 25 lake-area non profit organizations will be involved in the planning and festivities. I also recently found out that the Dallas Running Club will put on a White Rock Lake Centennial Half Marathon Saturday, May 7 at White Rock’s Winfrey Point. Registration is already open and they will limit the event to 2011 runners, which means minimal inconvenience for homeowners and commuters in surrounding areas. If you were inspired by the recent White Rock Marathon, you might consider getting on board with the half-marathon training program offered by the Dallas Running Club and signing up for this “once in a lifetime” event. I suspect the Centennial run will take place of the usual White Rock ‘n’ Roll 5k and 10-mile race that happens that weekend each year. No word yet on whether Ebby will run the half.
Centennial celebration will include a half-marathon race
