Lake Highlands High finished off W.T. White Friday night 45-14 to better its District 9-5A record to 2-0. In the midst of its annual homecoming festivities the Wildcats deflected all possible distractions and put up its second consecutive impressive victory.

• Jalen Broussard had just about the sickest interception I have seen (watch the video clip below). The Longhorns receiver was wide open…I’m talking wide open. And out of nowhere Broussard flew in with a one-hand snatch, almost as sweet as that Randy Moss catch against the Jets earlier this season, except Broussard was moving to his right.

• DeVonte Sunwenghan grabbed his fifth receiving touchdown giving him 8 all-purpose scores on the year. And get this…he’s averaging 23.6 yards per catch. That average tops District 9-5A and only three receivers in the area have a better ypc.
• Desmond Roland rushed for his 14th touchdown of the season and ups his average to 8.7 yards per carry with a 146 yard performance.
• Michael Ketchmark didn’t have huge numbers passing  5-10-88-1-1, but he didn’t have to. The rushing offense posted 354 yards. Ketchmark accounted for 71 of those yards, including a 51-yard sprint for a huge touchdown to help the Wildcats pull away in the second half.
• The Wildcats defense shut-out the Longhorns in the second half. They also allowed only 352 total yards, 63 of those came through the air. Up until Friday night, Longhorns QB David McKenzie was averaging 107 yards per game passing. I did the math, you can soak up the stats.
Coach Smith Postgame – Yep, you can listen to my conversation with head coach Scott Smith right after the game, right here.
