Update: According to a police report, Ayala’s remains were found along with a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver with one fired shell casing in the weapon under the hammer. “While this investigation remains open and active,” the report states, “the preliminary findings suggest that Mr. Ayala committed suicide.”

According to a brief piece on WFAA last night, the human remains found in the field along Van Dyke in Old Lake Highlands were those of missing restaurant manager and Lochwood resident Jose “Pepe” Ayala. We spoke with Ayala’s daughter, Carmen Ayala, a few months ago when she began searching for him.  Reportedly the police are still trying to determine the cause of death, but the Dallas Morning News reported last Friday that, regarding the found skull and other bones, police suspected suicide. We’ll update you when we learn any new information.
