Am I really the first in Lake Highlands to post about this great chicken place? If you crave your pollo “autentico” then visit our very own Lake Highland location, on Abrams road at the northwest corner of the intersection near LBJ. The lunch special is $3.99, and you get two pieces of flame broiled marinated chicken, rice, beans, and a good supply of tortillas.
If you are hungrier than 2 pieces, go for the half chicken, or if you are looking for takeout for the family, you can order your pollo entero (entire bird) for $13.99. If you are adventurous, you can get as crazy as mole’ sauce. The clientele are mostly Spanish speaking, which is one way to guage the authenticity of the food.
A quick internet search tells me El Pollo Regio is a chain that originated in Austin, but it reminds me of El Pollo Loco in California.
One aspect of the restaurant is very American — there is a drive thru lane, in case you might be in a hurry to get right back onto LBJ.
