Dillon, who’ll begin her new job July 14, was principal at Westwood Junior High from 2006 to the present, assistant principal at Pearce 2002-06, and a social studies teacher at Lake Highlands Junior High beginning in 1997. Like Walter Kelly, she was selected to attend the Principals’ Center at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Only three RISD principals have been chosen for this program, sponsored by Raise Your Hand Texas, and the Harvard program was the first thing mentioned by Highland Park School Board President Leslie Melson when I asked what attracted HP most about Walter Kelly.

Dillon’s selection was announced today by RISD Superintendent Dr. Kay Waggoner, who said “Lake Highlands High School is a premier high school in Texas, and I’m pleased our search attracted a number of outstanding candidates. I am very confident that Ms. Dillon is the right choice to lead Lake Highlands High School, and am certain that staff, parents and especially students will enjoy working with her to build upon the success and momentum already in place.”
Beth Hanks, community volunteer, academic booster club member, former president of LH Women’s League and Wildcat football mom, said this of Dillon: “My older son Peter had Ms. Dillon for American History at LHJH. It was a great experience. I remember thinking when she left, ‘they always take the good ones.’”

“Ms. Dillon always encouraged me, in fact she told me I should be an attorney because I debated with her all the time,” quipped Peter.

Dillon graduated from UTD and has a master’s degree in Education Administration from Texas A&M-Commerce. “We appreciate the parents, community members and staff who provided input as we worked through the selection process,” said Waggoner in her statement today. “I invite the Lake Highlands community to join me in congratulating Ms. Dillon and welcoming her to Lake Highlands High School.”
