LHHS senior Christine Clemons created a mural on the wall of the Student Center, and you can view it this Sunday during Baccalaureate Ceremonies.

Graduating senior Christine Clemons was determined to make a lasting contribution to the school she loves so she spoke to Tina Walker, her art teacher at LHHS, and developed a plan to paint a large-scale mural on the walls of the LHHS Student Center. Her artwork is now complete after weeks of working before and after school and whenever supportive teachers would release her to create. You can view Christine’s “Live Laugh Learn” mural this Sunday from 2-4 pm as the school building is open for Baccalaureate Ceremonies. This photo was taken during her creative process.

Christine’s story is unique. In many ways, she’s the typical LH kid – she’s a Wildcat Wrangler, member of Student Council, Young Life participant and officer in the Spanish Club. But most of her elementary school days were spent living in Hong Kong with her parents and attending the Hong Kong International School. Christine’s dad is Chairman of the Board of Aster Global Services, an international website design and software company.

“I have been fortunate enough to have scuba dived the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, toured the Forbidden City and walked the Great Wall of China in Beijing, deep-sea fished in the Maldives Islands, surfed at Langkawi Beach in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, rode elephants in Pukhet Thailand, stayed in a houseboat in the backwaters of Kerala India, jet-boated the Shotover River and rode a hang-glider in Queensland New Zealand, rode horses in Baguio City Philippines, white-water rafted on the Ayung River in Bali Indonesia, picnicked in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains in Shimla India, toured the Gyeongu Buddhist temple in Seoul South Korea, and swam with pink dolphins in Singapore,” Christine says. “I never take life for granted and I love every opportunity that arises. You never know what is waiting for you around the corner, so I accept each new challenge as a blessing.”

In the fall, Christine will head off to the University of Kansas to study international business. Her study of art will be finished, but her contribution to LHHS will be long-lasting. I hope you’ll pop into the Student Center soon to see her work.
