The Lake Highlands baseball team pulled off a clutch victory last Friday with an 8-3 win over Carrollton Creekview.
The win pulls the Wildcats into a tie for the fourth and final playoff spot in District 9-5A with one game left on the district schedule. Since LH has beaten Creekview both times in district play, the Wildcats would win the tiebreaker for the playoff berth.
LH needs one more win, 5 p.m. Friday at Molina, to clinch the playoff berth -or a Creekview loss to district-leading Richardson. The LH-Molina game was originally scheduled to be played last Saturday but was moved because of TAKS testing.
Molina is just 2-11 in district play, but gave LH all it wanted in a 1-0 nail-biter back on April 6 at Wildcat Field.
Meanwhile, the LH softball team should be rested and ready for its first playoff game, scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday against Sachse from District 10-5A. The location of the playoff has yet to be announced. The Lady Wildcats wound up tying Creekview for the 9-5A championship.
Should the baseball team wrap up the playoff berth, LH will likely face Rowlett in bi-district play. The Wildcats have had a tough road just getting to this point, facing contenders Berkner, Richardson, W.T. White and Creekview in the last week.
"I really am proud of the kids," LH coach Jay Higgins said. "Our kids just met the challenge."
Friday against Creekview, it was Byron Burns getting the win on the mound. LH collected 10 hits while allowing six. Ben Fields homered while Cameron Bodell tripled and Judson Luther doubled to lead the LH attack.
