The Lake Highlands football team will present its annual Night of Champions event at 6:30 p.m. Thursday (April 22) in the LH gym.

Night of Champions is the official end of off-season workouts and signals the start of spring football practices, which officially begin April 30.

At the Night of Champions, the players compete against themselves and attempt to beat their maximum bench press. It’s also a fundraiser, i.e. a lift-a-thon, with players getting pledges for the amount of weight they lift.

The Night of Champions is also when the new captains for the 2010-11 school year are scheduled to be unveiled. The captains are voted on by the team.

Spring football comes fairly late this year with the April 30 kickoff, but the Annual Red-White game comes early: May 8.

The Red-White game, one of LH’s biggest traditions, begins at 1 p.m. on May 8. Because of long ticket lines in the past, this year tickets will be sold ahead of time. Tickets can be purchased at the Night of Champions and again on Wednesday, May 5, at the school from 8-9 a.m. and again at lunch, 11:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for students.

Practices will resume after the Red-White game. Weekday practices will be from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. plus two Saturday practices from 9-11 a.m. The Wildcats will also have two other scrimmages on May 13 and May 20,  with both starting at 6:30 p.m.
