Congratulations to Merriman Park sixth-grader Travis West, who won the Lake Highlands Advocate/LH Sports Blog contest to be a batboy at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington during today’s game between Lake Highlands and Rockwall-Heath.

Travis, 11, won a random drawing after his mother, Kim, entered him in the contest. He already has some big-league credentials.

Travis plays shortstop and outfield with the Reds in the Chamber baseball league. This is his fourth year to play baseball. He’s played SVAA basketball for seven years and SVAA football for three years. At Merriman Park, he is a Beta Club officer and plays trumpet in the sixth grade band.

Travis is a Boy Scout in Troop 890 and has been a member of The Heights Children’s Choir for seven years. He will perform the role of "Dizzy Deano" in the spring production of "Sermon the Mound" and the group will get to perform the national anthem at a Frisco Roughriders game.

Thanks to all who entered, and special thanks to LH coach Jay Higgins.

Remember, admission and parking is free for tonight’s game at Rangers Ballpark. There will be a concession stand open behind home plate. Be sure and give Travis a shout-out while you’re cheering on the Wildcats.
