I like coffee — in fact, I admit, it goes beyond a mere affection and into the realm of full-fledged addiction. I’ll drink the cheap stuff and I’ll drink stuff that’s been sitting on the pot 12 hours or more, if necessary. But a time or two a week, I really need the good stuff. Lucky for me, the really good strong coffee is just around the corner at White Rock Coffee.
The place is staffed by people who (like me) adore coffee, but who (unlike me) have oodles of knowledge about the glorious beans and all the fabulous elixirs that can be derived from them. Only fitting, then, that Dallas’ most accomplished barista, Jon Meadows, will spend a few evenings — Friday April 2 – Sunday April 4 — showcasing some of his best work at the White Rock Coffee bar, before competing in the U.S. Barista Championship in Anaheim, CA near the end of the month. (Yes, this competition exists. Sylvester Stallone or Tom Cruise should star in the movie about the world’s most kick-butt barista — think "Cocktail" or "Over the Top").
Where was I? Oh yeah — Meadows will be serving up his signature drinks from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. each of those days. The 21-year old java Jedi says his creations are meant to “highlight the wonderful flavors found in coffee.” He teases one of his signature creations and says, “one of the drinks I created causes the consumer to stretch his mind just a little …” Just what does he mean by that? I’ll let you know in a couple weeks!
