The Wildcats went on a shooting spree last night in The Boneyard, scoring six different goals by six different players for the 6-1 win against Molina. Molina’s not a bad team – they were ranked fifth in district behind Richardson when we kicked off against them – but they couldn’t hold up to the pressure the Cats exerted all over the field.
The first goal was Big-Guy Abdoulaye’s – he scored with a header off Murphy Short’s corner kick. The second was a ball lobbed over the defense by Drew Donica, and the goalkeeper tried punching it out but couldn’t.
Young Swede had a lovely shot just a few minutes into the second half and Joel Mendoza scored from 20 yards out on a pass from Reagan Dunk. Carter Bredehoeft earned his second goal in two days, and senior captain Luke Stringer sealed the deal before the buzzer sounded. Emmet Kumeh demonstrated strong leadership skills directing the guys as usual, and crowd favorite Chris George had the Rowdies hootin’ and hollerin’ (again, as usual).
The Cats begin Round 2 of district play Friday night, facing Skyline (just behind us at third in district) at Forester Field in Dallas. You’ll recall we beat them the first time but had to go to overtime shootouts and use home field advantage to do it. Expect another nail-biter.
