The LH wrestling team had a banner day at the Region III tournament Saturday in Allen, qualifying four competitors and two alternates for the UIL state meet and finishing fourth out of 73 teams.
The Wildcats scored 128 points as a team and saw two wrestlers crowned individual champions: Senior Isaac Kinsella at 135 pounds and senior Isaac Grieder at 160 (pictured). Both are undefeated for the season.
Also qualifying for the state meet were senior Ebrima Njie who placed third at 215 pounds and senior Brent Bono who placed fifth at 189 pounds, but won a wrestle back to qualify for state.
Two other wrestlers placed and will be state alternates. Senior Robbie Penny placed 4th at 140 pounds but lost to the fifth place finisher in a wrestle back and junior DD Fields placed fifth at 125 pounds. Rounding out the team’s placers was senior Colman Vigil who placed sixth at 152 pounds.
The UIL state wrestling tournament is Feb. 26-27 at the Delco Center in Austin.
