In the final home game for the LH seniors, the Wildcats took care of Creekview on Saturday, 70-55. The game was moved to Saturday because of this week’s snowstorm. This win, combined with Richardson’s loss to Berkner on Saturday, pushes LH into a tie for fourth place in District 9-5A. The top four teams make the playoffs.

Lake Highlands began the game on a 15-4 run and never trailed. The Wildcats led by 16 points at halftime, but after a strong push by the Mustangs, the LH lead shrunk to four points by the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Lake Highlands led, 52-46, with six minutes remaining when Aaron Mazibuko shifted the momentum in the Wildcats’ favor by throwing down a two-handed dunk, exciting the crowd.

The game was stopped for a few minutes near the end when a skirmish broke out between the two teams after a hard foul under the basket. A player was ejected from each team and technical fouls were issued to both sides.

The Wildcats were led by Ricky Zorn, who scored 23 points, and by Aaron Mazibuko, who scored 14.

Lake Highlands finishes the regular season Wednesday (6:30 JV and 8 p.m. varsity) against Molina at Ellis Davis Field House. Should LH and Richardson remain tied for the final playoff berth, a play-in game will be scheduled.
