A contingent of 11 Wildcat wrestlers are competing for berths to the state meet in the Region III tournament this Friday and Saturday at Allen High School. The regional got off to a delayed start Friday because of the weather.
Isaac Kinsella, Robbie Penny, Colman Vigil, Isaac Grieder, Alfred Ngang, Brent Bono, Travon Starks Ebrima Njie (pictured), DD Fields, Reid Zambardino, and Nathan Schulman will all be competing for Lake Highlands.
The wrestlers must finish in one of the top four places in order to move on to the state meet, which will be in two weeks.
“At the beginning of the year, I made it my goal to make it to state,” captain Colman Vigil said. “I hope to reach that goal and finally get one of those state tournament sweatshirts this weekend.”
The Wildcats will wrestle many opponents this weekend that they have not faced before.
“I am ranked number three in the region,” fellow captain Robbie Penny said. “I know that I can beat the number two wrestler, and hopefully I can end up in first place."
