Mackenzie Jones is still just a sixth grader at Scofield Christian School, but the varsity girls’ soccer team at LHHS is already looking forward to her joining the team. Mackenzie will make a fine Wildcat goalie someday.

At the recent Goalkeeper Wars Competition hosted by Andromeda Soccer Club, Mackenzie, who plays for Sting Royal 98, was named Grand Champion for her age division. Mackenzie and four of her teammates competed in the “Back at You Beckham” event, wherein each team’s specialists shoot on the opponent’s goalkeeper from behind a wall of players obstructing the goalie’s view. Her team of Madeline Bonnet, Natalie Finks, Olivia Jackson and BC Loewen took first place. Mackenzie also won the “Goalie Wars” event, a competition of keeper versus keeper.

Mom, Kendra, couldn’t be prouder. “She’s tenacious – she works hard and she never gives up,” Kendra told me. Fine traits for a Wildcat goalie, I’d say.
