After a brief break for New Year’s, the Lake Highlands basketball and wrestling programs hit the ground running this week.

The boys basketball team has a barn-burner at home Tuesday night against rival Berkner. The Rams are probably the favorite to win District 9-5A and an LH win would be a major boost to the Wildcats’ playoff hopes. JV plays at 6 p.m. with the varsity tipoff scheduled for 7:30.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Wildcats are on the road (what else?) at Berkner on Tuesday with the same 6/7:30 p.m. start times. The Lady Wildcats have faced a lot of challenges so far and faced some stiff competition. But the roster is getting back to full strength and district play presents possibilities for rapid improvement.

Finally, the highly decorated LH wrestling program gets back into dual meet action Tuesday. The Wildcats host Liberty Christian starting at 6 p.m. at LHHS.

That means Tuesday night will be hopping at LH with soccer, basketball and wrestling all going on at once. No doubt, 2010 is off to a busy start.
