On and off since I’ve covered the Lake Highlands area, there has been heated discussion concerning our wildlife. Coyotes are generally the topic of concern, because they are prevalent and, though they aren’t much threat to us humans, they tend to prey on cute little house pets. I finally encountered a coyote myself one morning on a jog near Norbuck park, and he was pretty cute himself, staring at me with big brown eyes that looked more frightened than intimidating. I think it’s lovely that we have wild animals around our neighborhood and think we should go to great lengths to protect them, but then again, I don’t own any kittens or toy poodles.

That brings me to the point of this post—a bobcat was spotted on Lanarkshire Drive this past week, according to an e-mail from the L Streets neighborhood association. Bobcats look like giant cats and usually eat rabbits or similarly sized rodents, but it will settle for a Chihuahua or a backyard chicken, so take heed (and take a picture and send it to me if you spot one).
