This weekend’s Tri-State Classic, Friday and Saturday in the LH gym, features a talented field of wrestlers from many of the region’s top programs.

In addition to the powerful LH team, the field includes wrestlers from Coppel, Azle, Austin Bowie, Houston’s Strake Jesuit and Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Several LH wrestlers are among the favorites in their weight class, including Isaac Grieder at 171, Isaac Kinsella at 135 and Ebrima Njie at 215.

The name of the event is a bit of a misnomer. This year’s tournament features teams from just two states: Texas and Oklahoma.

"Tri-State is a traditional name from the beginning, because we used to pull from three different states, once in a while even four states," LH coach Pete Grieder said. "Ever since Hurricane Katrina, no one from Louisiana has been coming. But of course we aren’t going to change the name every year."
