The RISD Clothes Closet provides school clothing and toiletry items to needy students in Lake Highlands. Often, it’s a kind-hearted teacher who notices an inadequate jacket, ill-fitting clothing, or the tell-tale odor of items worn repeatedly without being washed and she refers them to the Closet.

New or gently used clothing is always welcomed, new packages of underwear in any size (many junior high and high schoolers wear large adult sizes) are celebrated enthusiastically, and full sized bottles of shampoo, deodorant & toothpaste will make you a bona fide hero.

But this holiday season, you can make a difference without spending a dime. The Clothes Closet currently needs shopping bags with handles to help students carry their items home. Lynn Henry is the LHHS Clothes Closet representative, and if you’ll drop bags (and/or anything else you’d like to give) on her front porch at 10115 Dentport, she’ll make sure they get to needy students among us.

And, thanks to you, a student might actually look forward to going to school tomorrow.
