Add another district title to Lake Highlands’ growing list. The boys cross country team captured the 9-5A crown on a wet, muddy course Friday morning at Norbuck Park.

Meron Fessahaie obliterated the field to win the boys’ individual title. Fessahaie, who also won the Lake Highlands invitational on the same course, won in 15:53.71 – nine seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Fessahaie wasted no time establishing a big lead and kept adding to it throughout the race.

"That’s how district is – just go out fast and stay there," Fessahaie said. "You just have to be tough and stay strong in the middle."

Eyobe Tamene finished third, Nathan Hogg eighth and Lee Lueder 11th to give LH four of the top 11 finishers. Complete meet results can be found at Direct Athletics.

The top three teams and two 10 individuals advance to the Class 5A Region II meet next Saturday, Nov. 7, at Arlington’s Vandergriff Park.

Lake Highlands also won the junior varsity boys race for a sweep of the boys’ events.

"I’m very happy," LH coach Alonna Knott said. "I think given the conditions of the course today, we performed the best we could."
