Freshman Nicole Rains played beyond her years for the Lake Highlands tennis team on Saturday. Rains won the deciding match in a 10-9 team tennis victory over Tyler Lee, one of the contenders for the regional crown.
LH coach Bob Williams said Rains played decisively under pressure with the match tied at 9-9.
"How nice it is to count on a freshman to pull the team through," Williams said.
John Paul Turnham also contributed a crucial win. Behind in a tiebreaker, Turnham held off match point and came back to win his match.
"We had several kids who are playing with injuries and illness," Williams said. "They are devoted to the success of the team and are really tough kids."
