Oh dear. The cat killings we’ve discussed here at Back Talk time and again appear to be ongoing, and, while the feline victims of the past were mostly wild-ish roamers, it has now happened to a beloved hat-wearing house cat who belonged to neighbors of Robert Wilonsky of the Dallas Observer.
The owners of this particular cat have filed a police report — unlike others — and it has been reported that police are looking into it. After I talked to Kent Robertson at Animal Services, I was almost convinced that we were overreacting, buying into urban legend serial-killer-in- our-midst craziness, and that coyotes — or the wild packs of dogs mentioned in this recent Morning News story — were mutilating the kitties.
But once again, though police maintain it is far more likely for other animals to do this than a person, it looks as if a human predator could be behind at least some of the brutal cat slayings.
