This year, Lake Highlands football is playing more than just a season opener. The Wildcats are participating in the North Texas Football Classic at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco.
The North Texas Football Classic is the creation of an organization called the Texas High School Football Fraternity. The THSFF web site has a little info on the NTF Classic as well as two other high school football kickoff events it is presenting.
LH-Mesquite is the feature attraction of the NTF Classic at 7:30 p.m. The opening act is Bishop Lynch vs. Jesuit at 1:30 p.m. – how hot is going to be then?
LH coach Scott Smith said he was contacted earlier this year about playing in the NTF Classic. He was enthusiastic from the start, especially considering LH has only four home games this season. Playing at Pizza Hut Park would be one less true road game. Mesquite was the linchpin to everything, since the Skeeters would have to give up a home game to play in Frisco.
"I was really pleased when they bought into it," Smith said.
If you’re not familiar, Pizza Hut Park is the home of FC Dallas professional soccer. It’s one of the nicest sports venues in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and has been host to high school football games and major concerts.
"If we’re fortunate enough some day, I could see us playing a playoff game up there," Smith said.
