Just got a call from Tom Garnier, director of programming for FSN Southwest. Because of my inquiry into Lake Highlands’ lack of television appearances this season, he wanted to get some information about possibly televising Lake Highlands’ much-anticipated home game against nationally-ranked Skyline on Sept. 25.
Of course, it’s still very early, but at least some professional television entity has an interest in that game. To be aired on FSN Southwest, the game would have to be moved to Thursday night. That shouldn’t be a problem for LH, which has a bye the week before. Skyline doesn’t have a bye – it plays Plano East the week before – and would have shorter preparation time.
But Skyline, as a DISD team, is accustomed to playing Thursday games. Plus, the exposure for all its athletes could be worth losing a day. Nine Skyline players have committed to major colleges, but there could be more commitments before signing day in February.
In short: Stay tuned.
