Lake Highlands apparently isn’t ready for prime time. Or tape delay.
Despite going three rounds deep in the playoffs in 2008 and returning electrifying players like Ricky Zorn and Desmond Roland, Lake Highlands does not appear on the TXA 21 (Channel 21) Game of the Week Schedule.
Of course, there’s always a chance TXA 21 could show an LH playoff game, but regular season contests against state-ranked Garland and nationally-ranked Skyline did not make the cut.
The week LH plays Garland, TXA 21 will instead show Highland Park-Coppell at 11 p.m. on tape delay. LH-Garland can be shown live, according to UIL rules, because it will be on a Thursday night.
TXA 21 is showing a live Thursday game the week LH has its titanic clash with Skyline. The Colony at Denton Guyer is Ch. 21’s choice instead.
Choosing to air Allen at McKinney Boyd is the real head-scratcher. Not only is that Allen’s second appearance on TXA 21, Allen beat Boyd 42-0 last year. It’s being shown the same week as the LH-Berkner rivalry game, which is always a good one.

Obviously, this isn’t NFL or college football where powerful networks can influence scheduling. And TXA 21 does a pretty good job of spreading its telecasts around the area.
However, RISD athletic director Bob Dubey said no one from TXA 21 inquired about airing one of the district’s games. He said Time Warner cable will show some games, including LH-Skyline, on local access.
There’s still a chance LH could appear on the FSN Southwest weekly high school telecast. Those games are always shown live on Thursday nights – Hello, LH-Garland? Or the LH-Skyline game could be moved to Thursday if all parties agree.
FSN Southwest spokesman Ramon Alvarez said the network hasn’t finalized its high school schedule beyond Labor Day weekend.
