Although high school golf is considered a spring sport, there is a fall golf season. That’s why the Lake Highlands boys golf team is wasting no time getting ready with tryouts set for Aug. 17-19 at Firewheel Golf Course in Garland.
Players will need to be on the driving range by 7:30 a.m. on the 17th and there is a $10 fee for use of the course each day. There are many more details which can be found by contacting LH coach Christopher Cole.
The team graduated two top players in Brad Mason, who signed with Mississippi State, and Andrew Weinberger who signed with Northwood. However, Cole is confident players like Randy Appling and Bobby Ladtkow can step to the forefront. Both have done well in junior tournaments this summer, including a couple of wins for Appling.
"It’s going to be hard to replace those two players [Mason and Weinberger] but Bobby and Randy have been working hard this summer and playing in a lot of tournaments," Cole said. "It’s very promising, let’s put it that way."
