Keeping chickens in urban back yards is all the rage, as noted in this June Lake Highlands Advocate story. The prospect of fresh eggs every morning is tempting, and caring for the hens seems pretty straightforward, but one major hurdle still remains: building the chicken coop. Unless you have a handyman or woman around your house, the task can be a bit daunting.

Luckily, since the urban chicken phenomenon is gaining steam all over the country, a company called Omlet USA has created a solution to this problem. It sells mod-looking chicken houses (called "eglus" — cute) and new eglu cubes (thanks to Daily Candy for highlighting these) plus secure runs to protect the chickens from predators. The easy build-your-own-cube order process allows purchasers to choose from one of five bright colors, decide on the run size, and even order chickens. You don’t have to order chickens from the company, but if you do, you must order at least two because "chickens are social creatures". Omlet USA even includes a handy dandy guide to help you choose how many chickens are best for you, based on the size of your yard and how many eggs you want every week.
