Yes, it’s OK for Dad to drink white wine for Father’s Day, especially since the forecast this weekend calls for triple digit heat. I’ve never understood to prove one’ manhood by druinking the heaviest red wine possible on the hottest day possible.
The Gaudichaud (about $16, available at Central Market) is a white Bordeaux blend (mostly sauvignon blanc) and comes highly recommended from regular blog visitor Scurvy Oaks: “A crisp white wine (with distinct peach flavor) well suited to the Texas summer, i.e., when it’s ‘good and hot.’ “
And he is correct. I got more green apple than peach, but it’s dry with the mineral finish that is typical of white Bordeaux blends. Drink this chilled on its own, or with grilled chicken, seafood or just about any Father’s Day meal that isn’t a rib eye. It wouldn’t even be bad with a hamburger. I did it with barbecued chicken, and it was a fine pairing.
