First we heard that Lake Highlands High would be designated as recognized for the first time ever. Now we learn that every school in the district has achieved that status or better. RISD is the biggest district to earn rights to that claim.
Teachers and administrators all over the district are celebrating. They’ve attended after-hours seminars, held Saturday tutoring sessions, pulled at-risk kids aside for one-on-one work, and generally given all they’ve got to achieve high scores. Each campus set high goals for itself and, in some cases, principals whose scores did not improve were replaced.
Details are still emerging, but the most improved school in the district appears to be Lake Highlands Freshman Center. With Bill Gallo as its new principal, the LHFC had five-point-jumps in two of the four subject areas. Also in our neighborhood, LHHS scores rose 8 points in science and Forest Meadow jumped 8 points on the writing test. Congratulations to the students, parents, and teachers whose hard work and dedication led to outstanding achievement for our kids and higher property values in our community.
