Tonight at 7 p.m. hundreds of cyclists will participate in the Ride of Silence at White Rock Lake. Cyclists all over the world will hold similar events to remind people of the importance of safety and to remember cyclists lost to traffic accidents. It all started here in Dallas in 2003 following the death of Larry Schwartz who was struck and killed by a school bus while riding.

The Greater Dallas Bicyclists have a pretty good slideshow of last year’s event. (I kinda like the photo of the guy on his cell phone, seeing as how it’s a silent event.) If you see these participants out riding tonight, just keep in mind what it’s all about.
