THE NETWORK OF COMMUNITY MINISTRIES is a nonprofit dedicated to helping children, senior citizens, and low-income families in the Richardson ISD attendance borders, which includes Lake Highlands. Here are just a couple of ways the group could use your donations and volunteer time:

The pantry here is especially low on peanut butter, canned meats, and personal toiletry items like shampoo and shaving cream.
This January and February, the pantry gave out more than 70,000 pounds of food. According to Merriman Park neighbor and emergency services director Robin Wilson, there’s been an increased need in our neighborhood this year. “So far, we’ve given out about 10,000 more pounds of food this year than we gave out this same time last year.”

TO SPARE …
The SeniorsNet program needs volunteers who can help our elderly neighbors with handy jobs around the house. This can be everything from painting a fence to trimming shrubs to repairing wheelchair ramps.
Volunteers typically work 9-11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, but there’s also a Hearts and Helpers program for neighborhood youth groups or for community and church groups that would like to volunteer during the weekend.
