Anyone who attended one of our RISD elementary schools, or has had kids who did, can attest to this: when you’re a fourth-grader, Enterprise City is just about the coolest thing ever. This mini-city for kids is complete with a restaurant, a bank, a gift shop and a radio station. I always worked as a reporter for the newspaper, of course.
But Enterprise City is more than just fun; it’s also a highly innovative way to teach kids about economy and business. And in fact, the American School Board Journal has just awarded RISD the First Place Magna Award for its Enterprise City program. This top honor goes out to districts across the country for outstanding programs that promote learning, and encourage community involvement. District trustees Karen Ellis and Lanet Greenhaw will accept the award on behalf of our district at the National School Board Association conference in California next month.
