At 30 … ish … er, give or take a year (OK, maybe two), I can’t presume to know precisely what might strike a cord with our older readers. But I had a couple things in mind, so I asked my Grandma. First, I told her all about the Tai Chi classes at C.C. Young The Point which I wrote about in this February’s Advocate, to which she said something along the lines of “I think it is great to have something you like to do everyday. The ones that just sit around, they’ll wither away.”
I also got her approval on a movie I screened for her over the weekend, Young at Heart, a documentary about a singing choir of senior citizens from the North Hamptons. I own and love the movie because of the choir members’ passion and dedication and the music that they perform which includes songs from Coldplay, Sonic Youth and Radiohead. You have to see these people to believe it — they are awesome. She loved it almost as much as I did. Almost. Anyway, it’s definitely a sort-a newish DVD (I think it came out about three months ago) I recommend for movie lovers young and older.
