Roughly 300 cubic feet of material won’t end up in a landfill, thanks to the hard work of Cub Scout Pack 890. This past Saturday, boys, dads and moms (who mercifully had hot coffee and chocolate to take the chill off) gathered at the Lake Highlands Community Garden, built a double sided bin, and collected bags of leaves from folks dropping them off. (Here are the photos.)

The boys dumped the leaves into one side of the bin and incorporated cottonseed meal. They then shoveled them to the other side of the bin where the dads used a power mower to mulch them. I myself brought home three bags of good compost which I’m saving to incorporate into my new plot (Pairadise, the Sequel?) at the new Highlands Christian Community Garden, groundbreaking Dec. 13.
