I was excited about all that Counter Culture (the uber-cool Mockingbird Station retailers) had in store for our neighborhood. Store owners/marketers were enthusiastic a few months ago, sending out press releases about summer concert events, hot new items and a spruced-up web site … but alas, I stopped hearing from them. And then last weekend I saw why. The store was closed and empty with a sign on the door that indicated a failing to make lease payments. Another victim of tough economic times it would seem.

One of the Mockingbird Station publicists let me know the store closed in July —in fact she said she had mentioned it to me a couple weeks ago in an e-mail (which I apparently skimmed through too fast). She did say that in the next week or two Mockingbird Station would be announcing new tenants.
