And we even have play-by-play of the debate!

I don’t often have nice things to say about Dallas’ Only Dallas Newspaper, but Rudy Bush’s live posts on the paper’s city hall blog are precious. Does anyone participating in the debate have any idea what they’re doing? Or what’s going on?

What was the Molly Ivins quote about the Legislature? The best free entertainment in Austin? I think we can safely substitute Dallas and the city council in that quote after this debate.

"So far," reports Bush, "the council has been hesitant to criticize the handling of the public survey that ended in more than 10,000 votes being cast to rename Industrial for Cesar Chavez. Ron Natinsky just changed that, calling the survey a good idea gone awry."

I’m laughing so hard I’m having trouble typing. Because, of course, if the "survey" had returned 10,000 votes for Riverfront Boulevard, it would have been the grandest idea in the city’s history. Damn those voters. Why do they always get in the way? The city would be so much better off if we didn’t have to listen to them.

Note to self: Attend Aug. 5 vote and do live blogging. If I can stop giggling long enough to type.
