A few months ago the Department of Defense hosted the Darpa Urban Challenge, a competition for cars that maneuver a closed course without any drivers. Yes, these cars actually drove themselves. Am I the only one feels like this is page out of The Jetsons?
Apparently, it’s not all that futuristic. The military hopes to use the technology in the not-too-distant future to keep more soldiers off battlefields. And a recent MSNBC story says we consumers could be seeing autonomous cars on our streets as soon as 2015.
And some of these cars might be able to find parking spots and park themselves. Now there’s a thought: Imagine having your car drive you to the grocery store, drop you off curbside, and then having your car go park itself. And you thought it was hard remembering where your car was parked before.
