Interesting story in today’s Morning News about the growing problem with "bump keys" — basically master-type keys that burglars can use to quickly break into a house, collect what they want, and leave without any evidence about how they got in. They "bump keys", which apparently are available on the internet for $3.25 along with videos showing how to use them, can be used to quickly bump an existing lock open if used the right way. The only real defense is an anti-bump lock mechanism, which apparently costs somewhere around $500; I guess having a security alarm that triggers when the door is opened could work, too. Just something else to be worried about these days…
