A pavilion with white Austin stone and a metal roof already is being constructed on the grounds of the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center.
It’s the latest in a series of improvements spearheaded by neighborhood service clubs, in this case the Lake Highlands Women’s League and the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands. But it’s definitely not the last project.
Next up is a brick trailhead planned by the Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League, the same gals responsible for acquiring the neighborhood’s sprayground. The bricks will be the starting point for the loop trail designed to wind through the wetlands behind the rec center and connect to the larger White Rock Lake hike and bike trail system.
But these won’t be just any bricks — the junior women’s league is inviting neighbors to personalize each one. A payment of $50 buys one brick with three lines, each holding 13 letters or characters. (Sorry, logos aren’t possible.) You can engrave the brick in honor of your kids, your late uncle, your dog Fifi — they’ll take your money no matter whom you want to dedicate it to.
