I’m a habitual parker at malls (I think most people are), and my lot of choice at NorthPark Center is the second tier of the parking garage east of Macy’s, perhaps because that entrance leads straight into the food court and movie theater, which I blogged about yesterday. Ever since the announcement about the NorthPark library this past January, I have walked into the mall and looked to my left, wondering if the large yellow brick wall before me will one day be the entrance to a library. Turns out that, at least for now, it’s just going to be a large yellow brick wall.

The original Morning News story said NorthPark plans to build the library near a Starbucks on the second floor, but I had never seen this Starbucks — until recently. A friend of mine from Houston was in town, and we were craving frappuccinos. I was about to take her all the way downstairs near Dillard’s when she spotted a Starbucks sign behind the movie theater escalators. We walked toward it and discovered a huge, beautiful Starbucks hidden there, complete with a balcony patio that overlooks NorthPark’s center court. It was pretty serene for a Saturday afternoon, so I’m guessing that not a lot of people have found it yet.

It appears that the new Dallas public library branch, Bookmarks, will be opening somewhere near that second-floor Starbucks in November. (That’s the new projected date. The original opening date was spring 2007, so we’ll see.) I must say that I was a bit disappointed when reading NorthPark’s press release. I had totally missed the original story’s mention that the library’s collection would be limited to children’s and parenting items. (I currently don’t fall under either category.) But it will still have comfy chairs and wifi, plus artwork provided by NorthPark, so I won’t complain.
