They don’t feed the hungry to get attention. They don’t spend time with the elderly to hear applause. They don’t tutor children to win awards. Most volunteers help others simply because they care.  But even if they don’t seek recognition, volunteers deserve to be honored for the work they do.

Each year, the Volunteer Center pays tribute to our community’s unsung  heroes through the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Awards.

“It is an honor to meet the volunteers who are nominated for this award every year,” says Julie Thomas, executive director of the Volunteer Center. “Their commitment to helping others is always so inspiring.”

Perhaps you know a volunteer who sorts donations at a clothes closet, rocks babies at a hospital or coaches a soccer team for at-risk kids. These awards are your opportunity to recognize those efforts.

Nominations are accepted in 10 categories, including individual, lifetime service, education, disabled, small and large business, youth individual, youth group, adult group and volunteer coordinator. Nominations are available from the Volunteer Center and must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on Jan.  29.

Winners will be selected by a panel of community leaders. All nominees and winners will be recognized at the 19th annual Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Awards Celebration from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. April 12 at the Hyatt Regency Dallas.
